Bulk Waste Collection moves to George Town

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is reminding George Town residents to get their bulk waste ready for pick-up as the annual collection exercise moves to this district from Monday, May 8, 2023, according to the schedule.

“As we enter the second week of this year’ Bulk Waste Collection Schedule, we urge residents to prepare and separate their items ahead of the week assigned for collection in their respective areas. This will facilitate a more effective and smooth Execution of our operations in preparation for the hurricane season”, said Richard Simms. DEH Director.

Residents are urged to prepare and separate their items ahead of the week assigned for collection in their respective areas. Any bulk waste that is put out after the announced dates will not be collected.

Solid Waste Management crews are deployed from Monday to Saturday according to the following schedule:

Household appliances, furniture, and other items too large to be handled by the weekly DEH collection crews should be placed by the roadside where it is easily accessible to DEH collection crews.  Metals and vegetation should also be separated from other bulk items.

In the case of any construction and demolition debris, hazardous material, electronics, and tyres, persons are required to make alternative arrangements to transport these materials to the nearest landfill as these items will not be collected during the bulk waste removal activity.

During this clean-up exercise, the collection of residential waste continues as scheduled. However, garbage should be stored in sturdy containers prior to its collection and properly place in their respective enclosures.

The George Town Landfill operates from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, until 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and is closed on Sundays. The landfill drop-off facility at the gate will remain accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day.
