Caribbean Airlines will soon reduce its network

Caribbean Airlines is cutting non-profitable routes

Travel around the Caribbean has become harder for tourists, the adventurous and business minded alike because Caribbean Airlines is about to significantly scale down its network.

From June 1, Caribbean Airlines will discontinue services between Dominica and Suriname, St Kitts and Suriname as well as Ogle in Guyana and Suriname. This is a significant reduction for one of the region’s most important intra-Caribbean carriers.

The airline also confirmed it will reduce flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe to a twice-weekly service. St Lucia, Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda are all affected too.

The latest cuts underscore the reality of Caribbean aviation; that even short regional routes remain difficult to sustain consistently.

The airline revealed that it is working on a new codeshare agreement with another regional carrier, which would expand destination options through coordinated schedules and integrated ticketing. “Once finalised and approved,” a spokesman said, “the agreement is expected to give customers “access to a wider network of destinations.”

Caribbean Airlines said passengers holding bookings beyond the affected cut off dates will be contacted directly either by the airline or through travel advisors.
