Join CCMI for this team-oriented, eco-inspired adventure that supports protection and restoration of coral reefs
Reef Relief 2021 seeks to bring together teams across the Cayman Islands to directly impact the health of our local coral reefs. Put a team together and get ready to say “CHEEEESE” in the Central Caribbean Marine Institute’s (CCMI) upcoming Photo Scavenger Hunt and Beach Day at Kaibo to help raise money for protection and restoration of Cayman’s coral reefs. Following several days of checking off the list of scavenger hunt items, all registered participants will make their way to Kaibo for a fun beach day on Saturday, 10th April from 12pm-3pm. Prizes will be awarded to the winning photo scavenger hunt team and best photos.
Teams are made of 4-6 participants, and can be friends, family, co-workers or neighbors, you can be any age to take part. Working together, teams have several days to complete as many items from the photo scavenger hunt list as possible, which they then post to CCMI’s Facebook page to submit. All the items on the list are eco-friendly and include lionfish hunting, beach clean ups to simple pro-environment things you can do in the home and office. Everyone who takes part will be contributing to ‘Reef Relief”. Items from the photo scavenger hunt range from simple to challenging, and points are awarded for each item completed. CCMI encourages everyone to get creative with their submissions and photograph fun interpretations of each item on the list.
At the conclusion of the scavenger hunt, teams are invited to hop in their car, their boat or take the ferry to Kaibo on Saturday, 10th April, from 12pm – 3pm for the beach day component. Upon arrival, participants receive a specially crafted rum punch welcome drink, a delicious lunch, access to beach games and select activities, live music and more. There will be raffle tickets for purchase for our chance raffle, the opportunity to sign up for our Coral Dome Champion programme, and special Reef Relief Squad and Healthy Reefs shirts and accessories for purchase. All proceeds go to support CCMI and sustain our ongoing programmes that work to protect and restore coral reefs.
CCMI’s Project Manager, Robyn Larkin, states, “With borders remaining closed to regular off island travel, we wanted to have a fun activity that encouraged local families and companies to get out and explore Grand Cayman. By participating in this photo scavenger hunt and beach day experience, teams will have an immediate impact on Cayman’s coral reefs and marine environment through the eco-inspired challenges we are putting into the scavenger hunt list. From buying local to understanding the important of native species to participating in beach cleanups, our supporters will do their part – while enjoying a fun team-building activity. We can’t wait to see what photos are submitted!”
Ticket prices begin at CI $75 (children 12 and under are CI $30). An unlimited bubbles and mimosa option is available for an additional CI $25/person. For complete event information and to buy tickets, please visit: https://reefresearch.org/kaibo-beach-day2021/.
