John Gray High School graduates

On Tuesday, 08 October, 197 students proudly walked across the stage to receive their diplomas during the John Gray High School graduation ceremony held in the gymnasium, themed ‘The Power of a Dream’.

Principal Jonathan Clark commended the students for their achievements and personal growth, urging them to uphold high expectations for themselves. “I am truly impressed by the fine young adults you have become. It’s not just about your outstanding exam results; it’s about your growth mindset, positive attitude toward learning, sense of community, and ambitious dreams. You have so much to offer the world and you are ready to continue your journey to make John Gray and these beloved Islands proud.”

He added, “Continue to set and maintain high expectations of yourself and remember the power of a dream. Dreams are the seeds from which greatness blossoms.”

Seventy-one students graduated with Level 2 honours, having passed at least seven subjects at Level 2 or higher, including English and mathematics. Additionally, twenty-nine graduates received Level 2 high honours for passing at least nine subjects at Level 2 or higher, with no grade lower than a II or B.

The Student of the Year Award was presented to Raldayne Thomas for his exceptional academic performance and active involvement in extracurricular activities.

Keynote speaker Mrs. Felicia McLean, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for the Cayman Islands, shared her journey of overcoming adversity and achieving success.

Her inspiring story encouraged the graduands to remain determined regardless of their circumstances. “Dream big; set goals that scare you a little and excite you a lot. Remember that your current situation does not define you; you have the power to shape your life and your future. The world is waiting for the greatness within you, so go out there and make your dreams a reality.”

Head boy Raldayne Thomas and head girl Alicia Faulknor delivered a light-hearted address, playfully reminiscing about the numerous changes and challenges the cohort faced, both personally and academically. They encouraged their peers to maintain optimism and resilience through life’s trials. “Class of 2024, we have survived earthquakes, a pandemic, and everything else life has thrown our way. So, what’s next? Whatever it is, we’ve got this!”

The Department of Education Services extends heartfelt congratulations to the John Gray High School Class of 2024.
