Chamber Members Engage with WORC’s Labour Market Demand Unit at Insightful Lunch & Learn

The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce hosted a dynamic Lunch & Learn session in collaboration with Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC), bringing together business leaders, HR professionals, and training providers for a focused conversation on bridging education and employment in the Cayman Islands.

Led by Reinaldo Fletcher, Manager of WORC’s Labour Market Demand Unit (LMDU), the session offered a data-driven look at how Cayman’s labour needs are identified and addressed. Mr. Fletcher explained that the LMDU is mandated by the Cayman Islands Government to forecast labour market trends, align immigration policy with workforce realities, and foster public-private partnerships that connect talent to opportunity.

“We use modelling and trend analysis to anticipate shifts in the economy and workforce needs,” Fletcher said. “Our goal is to ensure that Cayman’s workforce strategy is informed by real data and real conversations—with employers, educators, and industry leaders.”

The presentation highlighted how LMDU collaborates with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, to identify future skills gaps and training mismatches. Fletcher emphasized the importance of partnerships between employers, industry associations, and educational institutions in co-designing workforce solutions that are both practical and forward-looking.

One slide outlined the Unit’s core functions:

• Forecasting Labour Market Trends using economic modelling and data analytics.

• Supporting Immigration Policy Alignment to reflect local labour realities.

• Facilitating Public-Private Partnerships to build collaborative workforce strategies.

• Connecting Talent to Opportunity through insights and relationship-building.

During the open discussion, attendees raised questions about the relationship between education levels and employability. Fletcher noted that while technical skills are important, most employers expect candidates to have completed high school as a baseline qualification.

The session concluded with a call to action for Chamber members to engage more directly with WORC and the LMDU. Fletcher encouraged businesses to share their workforce challenges and participate in shaping future strategies.
