CILLA Girls Softball – Game Report

Kirk Freeport 12, Scotiabank 7

CILLA Girls Softball continued on May 15th, as first place Kirk Freeport scored at least two runs in every inning on their way to a convincing 12-7 victory over Scotiabank.

Kirk Freeport took a 3-0 lead after one inning on three infield hits and a couple of missed chances by Scotiabank. The key hit was a 2 RBI double by catcher Raina Myles.

Scotiabank’s Shay Windsor scored in the top of the second on a single and two throwing errors by Kirk Freeport, allowing her to sprint all the way home.

In the bottom of the inning Kirk Freeport scored four runs, all after two were out. McKenna Knapik and Sofia Watler singled, Deandra Whiteman walked, and Keirsten McLaughlin was hit by a pitch, scoring McKenna. Raina Myles followed with her second RBI hit of the night, and all three runners scored when the ball was misplayed in the outfield.

Scotiabank failed to score in the top of the third, but Kirk Freeport tallied three more runs. Amiya Tahal singled, Sade Parchment was hit by a pitch, Nathania Simpson walked, and McKenna Knapik hit into a fielder’s choice. Sofia Watler lined a 2 RBI single to right field, scoring Sade and Nathania. Deandra Whiteman doubled to left field, scoring McKenna.

In the fourth inning Raina Myles belted a triple deep to left field and scored on a throwing error back to the infield. Amiya Tahal scored the final Kirk Freeport run when she walked and scored on a Scotiabank error later in the inning.

Scotiabank rallied with six runs over the final two innings to make the final score a bit closer. In the fourth inning, Carmella Ylagan singled and Stephanie Menko walked. Grace Liesman had an RBI single and Calissa Ylagan had an RBI grounder. In the fifth inning Kris Maxine Aleria, Shayna Pitta and Janey Veilleux all walked to load the bases. With one out, Carmella Ylagan hit a ball to the outfield, which evaded two fielders, allowing all four runners to score on the play.

The defensive play of the night was made by Kirk Freeport’s Deandra Whiteman and Sofia Watler, who combined to pick off a Scotiabank runner who did not return to first base in time.
