Clarien acquires NCB Cayman business
Clarien Bank Limited (“Clarien”) today announced the acquisition of NCB (Cayman) Limited, marking an important next step in the Bank’s long-term strategy to expand its wealth management and private banking offering across the region. The business will operate as Clarien Bank & Investments Limited, broadening Clarien’s regional footprint and enhancing its ability to serve clients across the Caribbean.
The acquisition brings together two relationship-led financial services businesses with strong alignment in client service, long-term thinking and wealth management. A central part of the strategic fit is a shared belief in delivering a boutique client experience backed by broader institutional banking and wealth management capability.
Clarien has built an established banking and wealth management platform in Bermuda, serving local and international clients through private banking, investment management, lending and broader financial services. The Cayman acquisition reflects Clarien’s longer-term strategy to grow carefully in jurisdictions with similar regulatory standards, client needs and international financial expertise.
Ian Truran, Chief Executive Officer of Clarien, said the acquisition represents an important step in the Bank’s regional growth strategy.
‘Cayman is one of the world’s leading international financial centres and an important market for the continued growth of Clarien’s private banking and wealth management business. This acquisition expands our ability to serve clients across jurisdictions with sophisticated international financial needs, while building on the strong foundation and local expertise already established in Cayman.’
Tuula Jalasjaa, Managing Director, Clarien Bank & Investments Limited, said continuity for clients and employees had been a central consideration throughout the process.
‘We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Clarien and believe it represents a positive outcome for clients, employees and the business in Cayman. Maintaining continuity and supporting the long-term success of the business have been important priorities throughout, and we are confident the transition provides a strong platform for the future.’
Clarien stated that continuity and client relationships will remain central throughout the transition. Clients will continue working with familiar relationship managers and teams, while gradually gaining access to broader investment capabilities, enhanced reporting technology, wider banking solutions, and additional specialist expertise across the Clarien platform.
Miguel DaPonte, Chief Wealth Management Officer at Clarien, said the acquisition would further strengthen the Bank’s ability to support internationally connected wealth clients.
‘Cayman is a highly sophisticated international wealth market, with clients increasingly looking for broader cross-border capability alongside personalised service. By combining local expertise with Clarien’s wider investment platform, private banking capabilities and digital infrastructure, we see a strong opportunity to further enhance the client offering in the market.’
Clarien’s wealth management capabilities include discretionary and advisory portfolio management, digital investment reporting tools, private banking, lending solutions and access to international investment products and managers.
