On Thursday evening (13 October), the Clifton Hunter High School held its 2022 graduation ceremony in its gymnasium under the theme, ‘You don’t have to see the whole staircase; just take the first steps.’
For the first time, 33 students graduated with high honours, having passed nine or more subjects, including English and mathematics. Fifty-seven students earned honours diplomas, having passed seven or more subjects.
In his remarks, Principal Dr Richard Wildman recognised and celebrated more of the 165 graduates’ accomplishments. He said, “The Class of 2022 is unique in many respects. Students in this graduating class have achieved several regional accolades while at Clifton Hunter High School. These include the top Accounts student in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), the top six Electronic Data Preparation Management (EDPM) CSEC students, as well as having 15 students ranked in the top 11 in EDPM in the Caribbean.”
Dr Wildman continued, “These extraordinary achievements are part of a trend since 2019, where our CHHS students have received regional top ten statuses in an expanding list of subject areas, including biology, integrated science, EDPM, physics and accounts.”
He further expressed his gratitude to the various stakeholders for their valuable input and support of the Clifton Hunter High School as it embarks on a world-class journey.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was His Excellency, the Governor, Martyn Roper.
Governor Roper used the opportunity to congratulate the graduates and give them a few words of encouragement. “As you embark on your academic journey, as you take those first steps, I encourage you to set yourself ambitious goals and make your dreams come through. Do something that you are deeply passionate about. Continue to adopt a growth mindset pushing you out of your comfort zone,” said Governor Roper.

Christopher Saunders, Minister for Planning, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure, Hon Johany ‘Jay’ Ebanks, Parliamentary Secretaries Ms Heather Bodden and Mr Isaac Rankine, Ministry of Education (MoE) Acting Chief Officer, Ms Lyneth Monteith, Portfolio of the Civil Service Chief Officer Mrs. Gloria Mcfield-Nixon, MoE Acting Chief Officer Mr Adrian Jones, Department of Education Services (DES) Director Mr Mark Ray and Deputy Director Mr Elroy Bryan.
Student of the Year Chloe McClymonth delivered the graduates’ reply.
Keynote speaker, Actuary and CHHS alumna Aryana Grant closed her remarks with the following, “Dare to be successful, be understanding, be committed, and be courageous. Find your first step and shine. All the tools and resources you need are out there waiting for you to go and seize them. Congratulations on making it to this milestone. Now go out there and pave the way for what you deem to be a successful life.”
