Governor Martyn Roper catches up with steel pan guru Earl la Pierre at the annual Heroes Square Christmas tree lighting ceremony

George Town was lit up again this year thanks to the annual Rotary Club of Grand Cayman’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony, which took place on Monday in Heroes Square, now in its 56th year. The Governor Martyn Roper and his wife Lissie were in attendance at a small but important informal ceremony, whereby Mrs Roper did the honours, switching on the Christmas tree light, thereby signaling that Christmas is well and truly on its way in the Cayman Islands. The Premier delivered a Christmas message and Christmas carols were duly sung. The Governor said the event always felt like the start of the Christmas season and it was a wonderful sight to see the lights going up across the Islands.
