The Honouring Women’s Month (HWM) Intergenerational Games Night was a huge hit, attracting a record 168 attendees! The event brought together people of all ages, females, and males, for a fun-filled evening of board games, mindful activities, game shows, video games, and a variety of physical activities.
The night was a testament to the power of intergenerational connections, with participants enjoying everything from chess to a dual shot basketball arcade game. The event’s success is a credit to the hard work of DOS HWM organizing team and our partners, Youth Services Unit.
“The night was a huge success, and we’re thrilled everyone had such a great time,” and “It was amazing to see people coming together and having a blast”, said HWM event lead organizers Merta(Meita)Day & Tristan Wesenhagen.
“This was a very important opportunity and Youth Service Unit was very happy to collaborate. It was a resounding success!” said Mellony Bryan-Waugh, Head of Youth Services Unit.
”It was truly heartwarming to see different generations come together in one space to laugh, compete, and connect. The incredible turnout shows how much our community values family-friendly spaces where memories can be created across generations.” Said Melissa Whorms, Assistant Chief Officer Ministry of Youth Sports Culture & Heritage.
“There was an awesome sense of unity and togetherness at the IGN. Everyone found a game that brought them joy & excitement. It was AMAZING!” said James Myles, Youth Services Coordinator for Youth Services Unit.
“The Savannah United Church’s Youth Group has participated in the HWM IGN for the past 3 years and we appreciate having such a well organised, interactive, and fun option for our youth to interact with their peers and make new friends. The greatest highlight for me was knowing that it was a safe space where all the activity stations were managed by members of the staff from the DOS & YSU that fully engaged our youth and even gave way for our leaders to have our down time as we engaged in relaxing activities. The DOS & YSU Staff were very vigilant, alert, and sociable making the event safe and engaging for all groups”. Said Camile Ebanks, Youth Minister from Savannah United Church.
The organising team send special thanks to sponsors Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage, Department of Sports, Youth Services Unit, and private sponsors Welly’s & CUC. Also, thanks to women from the community fitness group who donated refreshments. Without this type of generous support and sponsorship this event would not be possible. Huge shoutout to the staff of Youth Services who stood alongside us which allowed us to run the event so efficiently and in a safe manner.
