Elite SC Opens CFU Club Shield campaign against Virgin Gorda United
Elite Sports Club will begin its 2026 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield campaign today when it faces Virgin Gorda United, of the British Virgin Islands, in the tournament’s opening round at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Cayman time.
Elite earned its place in the regional competition after capturing the 2025-26 CIFA Premier League title, giving the Cayman Islands champions an opportunity to test themselves against some of the Caribbean’s top amateur and semi-professional clubs.
“On behalf of the Cayman Islands Football Association, I want to congratulate Elite SC on earning the opportunity to represent the Cayman Islands at this year’s CFU Club Shield,” Cayman Islands Football Association President Alfredo Whittaker said. “Qualifying for this tournament is a testament to the club’s hard work and success throughout the Premier League season. We wish the players, coaches and staff every success as they compete on the regional stage.
These opportunities are invaluable for the continued development of our clubs and players, and we know Elite will represent Cayman football with pride, determination and professionalism.”
The 2026 CFU Club Shield features 22 league champions from across the region competing in a straight knockout tournament from July 23 through Aug. 2. The tournament serves as a pathway to the Concacaf Caribbean Cup, with the champion and runner-up advancing to this year’s competition.
Should Elite defeat Virgin Gorda United, the Cayman club would advance to the Round of 16, where it would face Dominican Republic side Delfines del Este on Saturday.
The CFU Club Shield, established in 2018, provides champion clubs from across the Caribbean with valuable international competition while helping strengthen the development of club football throughout the region.
Fans can follow Elite SC’s progress throughout the tournament on the CFU and CIFA’s digital platforms.
