Ernest Sokobe
Digital asset fund specialist strengthens MHA Cayman’s audit team
MHA Cayman has appointed Ernest Sokobe as an Audit Director. Ernest joined the firm in September 2026 and has more than 12 years of external audit experience, specialising in investment funds and digital asset entities.
Before joining MHA Cayman, he was an Audit Senior Manager at KPMG in the Cayman Islands, leading audits of hedge funds, private equity funds and digital asset funds. He previously worked with KPMG East Africa.
David Walker, Managing Partner of MHA Cayman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ernest to the firm. His technical expertise in fund and digital asset audits, his leadership experience and his commitment to audit quality and client service align perfectly with our values and our vision for the future.”
Commenting on his new role, Ernest said: “I want to help strengthen our audit approach for digital asset funds and continue building our team’s capabilities in this fast-moving space. Audit quality comes first. Alongside that, I want to make the audit process as efficient and responsive as possible for our clients.”
“I’m particularly excited to join MHA Cayman, given the firm’s depth of experience in the digital assets sector. The firm has been auditing digital asset funds since 2017,” Ernest added.
Ernest holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) with First Class Honours from Kenyatta University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (Kenya) and is pursuing the US CPA qualification. He is a member of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
He is committed to lifelong learning and volunteers as a part-time accounting tutor for university students.
Sharing his thoughts on what could make digital assets more mainstream, Ernest said: “Regulatory clarity and institutional adoption will continue to be the main drivers. In my view, stablecoins are one of the strongest pathways to mass adoption, given their growing use in cross-border payments by businesses and individuals. Tokenised funds also offer an important bridge for traditional finance to move on-chain.”
On the challenges of auditing digital asset funds, Ernest highlighted three in particular: confirming that all on-chain activity has been captured, understanding the risks in decentralised finance (DeFi) activity, and verifying that the assets exist and that the fund owns and controls them, including where custodians hold them.
“These call for specialist tools, deep technical knowledge and close engagement with clients. That’s where MHA Cayman’s experience makes a real difference” Ernest concluded.
