Eta approaches the Cayman Area

As at 3am this morning Topical Depression Eta was located west of Belize moving northward at 8mph with maximum sustained winds of 35mph.

Eta is forecasted to become a tropical storm today as it heads in a North Easterly direction.

This trajectory will place Eta about 81 miles NW of Grand Cayman on Saturday afternoon bringing tropical storm force winds across Grand Cayman from mid-morning Saturday and lasting through Saturday evening. It is also forecasted to be 108 NW of Cayman Brac Saturday evening and bringing tropical storm force winds across Cayman Brac from early evening Saturday and lasting through late Saturday night

A tropical watch is still in effect for the Cayman Islands

Intermittent showers along with fresh to strong east to southeasterly winds and rough seas are expected across the Cayman area over the next few days as result of the motion Tropical Storm Eta.

Radar images show scattered showers in and around the Cayman area which are moving towards the west. The National Hurricane Center in Miami Florida is issuing advisories on Tropical Depression Eta, Which at 1 a.m. was located 17.0 N 87.6 W or about 450 miles west to southwest of Grand Cayman with maximum winds of 35 mph and is moving north northwest at 8 mph

Today, we can expect cloudy to overcast skies with an 80% chance of showers and possible thunder. Seas will be rough with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet with higher swells especially along the east and south coasts.

A marine warning remains in effect.
