Eta causes flooding remains a Tropical Depression

The Cayman Islands National Weather Service is advising that Tropical Depression Eta is currently 190 miles west to southwest of Grand Cayman moving east to northeast at 13 mph.

Eta is expected to continue to move northeast and strengthen to a possible Tropical Storm and track about 60 miles to the NW of Grand Cayman early this evening, 99 miles NW of Cayman Brac by late Saturday night and over central Cuba by Sunday morning.

On its current forecast path, Eta is expected to support tropical storm force winds over the Cayman Islands from early this afternoon through early Sunday morning. The Cayman area can expect a decrease cloudiness, winds and seas from Sunday morning. The National Hurricane Center in Miami Florida is issuing advisories on Tropical Depression Eta, Which at 7 a.m. was located 18.6 N 84.2 W or about 190 miles west to southwest of Grand Cayman with maximum winds of 35 mph and is moving towards the east to northeast 13 mph.

Overcast skies with torrential rain and intermittent thunderstorms. Showers will locally heavy at times leading to flooding of low-lying areas

Winds are Southerly 25 to 30 knots Gusting to 40 knots this morning veering to the west to northwest 25 to 30 gusting Gusting to 40 knots by evening.

Swells from the east to southeast at 3 to 5 feet are expected. Seas will be rough with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet with higher swells today 7 to 11 feet tonight especially along the east and south coasts.

A marine warning is in effect.
