Former Member of Parliament earns his Doctorate

Lyndon Leathan Martin, a former Member of Parliament for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman has been conferred the degree of Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University in Minnesota.  This further augments a Bachelor’s of Science (Honors) earned in 1992 from the University of Tampa, with a double major in Economics and Management and a minor in Finance; a Master in Business Administration earned in 1993, and several post graduate certificates.  In 2018 Mr.

Martin earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, the globally recognized certification that acknowledges the skills to manage the people, processes and business priorities of professional projects.

A research project was submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Business Administration. Mr. Martin provided a digital copy of his dissertation to the Premier the Hon. Andre Ebanks, Minister of Education, Hon. Rolston Anglin., the Minister of Planning, the Hon. Jay Ebanks, and the Minister of District Administration Hon. Nicolas DaCosta. His dissertation is entitling Alignment of Projects with Business Strategy. A key recommendation of his study is that project managers must evolve beyond traditional technical project management to become strategic leaders who navigate complex political dynamics, build collaborative stakeholder relationships, and develop adaptive organizational capabilities that address the unique challenges of resource-constrained small island environments. The implications for positive social change include the potential for business leaders to implement strategic project management practices that support sustainable organizational growth, economic development, and improved quality of life in their communities.  This is the first internationally accepted study that addresses the challenges of project management from a small island perspective.

Mr. Martin is currently employed as Roads Superintendent at District Administration Department Public Works Section on Cayman Brac.  He owns and manages a mobile food trailer. He served as the second elected Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Sister Islands from 2000 to 2005. He lectured at, and served as Campus Director for the International College of the Cayman Islands, He was Cooperate Affairs Manager for Cayman Net News and contributed to the editorial and journalism team. Mr. Martin, who served as Assistant Economist between 1993 and 1995 lead the Economic Unit for the Cayman Islands Government.

Mr. Martin resides on Cayman Brac with is wife Ana Martin and 12-year-old son Dominic Martin. He intends to continue conducting research seeking to fill existing gaps in the literature, and looks forward to contributing to the Cayman Islands as a global Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of project alignment.  He looks forward to presenting his finding and recommendation on the global stage and to actively publishing related articles.  He is also open to lecturing at the tertiary level in the field of Economics, Management and Project Management.
