Foster Mother Named CIBC Caribbean’s Cayman Islands Unsung Hero 2026

CIBC Caribbean has named longstanding foster care mother Ann Haven as the bank’s Unsung Hero 2026 for The Cayman Islands.

For four decades Ann Haven has been a pillar of compassion within the Cayman Islands, dedicating her life to fostering children who needed stability, love, and a safe place to grow. Her home became a nurturing place for countless children, many of whom arrived as newborns and remained part of her family long after they aged out of the foster care system.

“She was selected through the Unsung Heroes nomination process, based on nominations submitted by members of the public.”

Mrs. Haven is the second winner of the CIBC Caribbean Unsung Heroes programme since it was revived last year across the bank’s 10-member footprint after running from 2003 for ten years before being put on hiatus.

The programme invites members of the public to nominate people who are quietly making a difference in their communities and who have not received any significant reward for their work. Last year’s winner was Yvonne Boldeau, a retired school administrator who dedicated her life to assisting students in need.

“We are delighted to recognize Ann Haven’s remarkable contribution to the Cayman Islands community. Her commitment to providing a loving home to children in need over many years is truly inspiring,” said Head of Country, CIBC Caribbean, Gemel Sobers.

Sobers praised Mrs. Haven’s lifelong commitment to foster care noting that she has always maintained an open door, day or night, to any child in need of care.

Mrs. Haven will be presented with a prize of USD$5 000, and her nomination has also be reviewed by the regional judging panel of the Unsung Heroes programme which names the overall CIBC Caribbean Regional Unsung Hero.

That announcement was made on Saturday September 19, 2026 at an awards ceremony in Barbados which was streamed live on the bank’s Instagram and Youtube channels.
