Myles Garrett hopes to be a Super Bowl hero with the Browns
When Myles Garrett recently learned he had been included in one of the biggest trades in NFL history, a wave of mixed emotions kicked in.
The Cleveland Browns sent the NFL’s best defender to the Los Angeles Rams for budding star Jared Verse and three draft picks, ending Garrett’s time with the franchise that drafted him No.1 overall in 2017.
Garrett claimed he was “shocked” but also added there was: “Joy. Disappointment. It was a little bit of everything. I was joyful about a new opportunity, going into a new place that’s a great football team, great organisation, being able to challenge for a Super Bowl, being a contender.” During Garrett’s nine seasons in Cleveland, the Browns missed the playoffs seven times, hampered by inconsistent quarterback play. With the Rams, he steps into a totally different situation.
The Rams lost the 2025 NFC Championship to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, but remain a strong contender given the roster’s talent.
The 30-year-old Texan spent years playing at an elite level for the largely uncompetitive Browns. With the Rams, he should be just as great, anchoring a top-five defense. Only now, he’ll finally have a real chance to add rings to his Hall of Fame resume.
