The second game of the week was played on Saturday, February 13th and a see-saw encounter saw the SOL Pumas rally for six runs in their final at-bat to squeak past the SOL Jaguars, 13-12, in an early season battle for first place.

Each team scored four runs in the first inning. Clara Ramos, Rio Windsor, Janey Veilleux and Diamond Chambers crossed home for the SOL Jaguars, while Aleigha General, Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin, DeShae Cann and Kenia Rostran duplicated the effort for the SOL Pumas. Tracey Campbell, playing right field for the SOL Pumas, threw out a runner at first base with excellent fielding and a perfect throw.

The SOL Jaguars plated four more runs in the second, with Valentina Bustos crossing the plate, followed later in the inning by Clara, Rio and Janey. Withney Jackson contributed a key hit during the rally. In the bottom of the inning the SOL Pumas came back with three runs as Leila Dixon scored her first run of the contest, with Aleigha and Jialy earning their second runs of the game. The SOL Jaguars threw out another runner at home who was trying to score from third.

The SOL Jaguars finished their batting with four more runs in the decisive third inning. Valentina, Clara, Rio and Diamond all scored to make it 12 runs on the night for the SOL Jaguars, and Withney had another important hit in the inning.

In the bottom of the third, the SOL Pumas quickly got on the scoreboard as Aleigha walked and later scored on a single by Jialy. After DeShae singled, Kenia’s double brought them both home to make it 12-10. Tracey struck out but reached first on an error, with Kenia scoring on the play. Aydis walked and the runners advanced to second and third moments later on a passed ball. Jeliyah McLean then hit a grounder to the pitcher, but a high throw allowed Tracey and Aydis to scamper home for the 13-12 victory, sending their bench into jubilant celebrations.

Both teams are to be congratulated for playing an entertaining came, despite not having all their players present.

Games continue on Saturday, February 20th as the SOL Panthers take on the SOL Pumas at 6:30 pm.
