Logic 19, Digicel 17

The 2023 season of CILLA Girls Softball continued on March 23rd as fourth place Logic built a 19-2 lead, then withstood a furious final inning rally by first place Digicel to hold on for an amazing 19-17 win!

Logic scored at least four runs in each inning during their most explosive offensive output of the year. Avah Connors scored four runs, while Lili Anne Aleria crossed the plate three times. Teammates Hristina Nachev, Lorlie Bryan, Carmella Ylagan, Deidre Edwards and Natalia Cugliari each scored twice during the balanced attack. Carmela had 5 RBIs on the night, Lorlie had 3 RBIs, and Keirsten McLaughlin and Hristina each chipped in with 2 RBIs. Outfielder Jeliyah McLaughlin made several good plays in left centre, including a fine catch.

Digicel only managed two runs over the first four innings, but they erupted for 15 runs in the top of the 5th. Rio Windsor scored four times, while Coco Windsor, Tracey Campbell, Renee Bryan, and Leianni Dixon each scored twice. Rio had a solo homerun to left centre in the 1st, while Eve McIntosh blasted a three-run homer deep to centre in the dramatic 5th inning.

Digicel’s first seven batters scored in the 5th, and after one out, another seven batters crossed the plate before two were out. Logic missed good chances to get two outs earlier in the inning and Digicel took advantage of every opportunity. Fortunately for Logic, they were able to keep their composure at the very end to get the elusive final two outs, which allowed them to hold on for the victory.

It certainly was a hard-earned first win of the season for Logic, who have come so close several times this year. It also narrowed the gap in the standings, as all four teams are within three games of one another with half the regular season to go.

March 25th

Coldwell Banker 10, Kirk Freeport 5

The Saturday evening game saw Coldwell Banker win their third consecutive game with a 10-5 triumph over Kirk Freeport.

Kirk Freeport got off to a quick start, as their first four batters all reached and scored. Madison Malice, Demae Lee and Kenia Rostran all walked, while Nelly Hayles smashed an RBI double. Daniella Heard knocked in a run with a groundout. Coldwell Banker bounced back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st, to make it 5-4. Janey Veilleux, Maya Willis and Jialy Archbold McLaughlin all walked and scored, while Raegan Jefferson scored after she hit an RBI single, and Eowyn Hawkins scored after her 2 RBI single.

Kirk Freeport failed to score in the 2nd as Jialy struck out the side. Coldwell Banker kept up the momentum by scoring five more runs in the bottom of the inning. RaMiyah Ebanks walked, Janey was hit in the arm by a pitch, and Maya reached after a dropped third strike. All three would score as Raegan smacked a 2 RBI single and Jialy belted a 2 RBI homer to centre.

Kirk Freeport scored a loan run in the 3rd as Kenia walked and eventually sprinted home from 3rd on a passed ball. Coldwell Banker was unable to score in the bottom of the inning as Demae caught a line drive and threw to Nelly for a good double play.

Kirk Freeport had one final chance, but Jialy alertly tagged out a runner who had strayed off second and she struck out the final batter to end the game, her seventh strikeout of the night.

Nelly, Jialy and Raegan were all presented with game balls for their excellent performances.

Games take place on Thursdays and Saturdays at 6:45 pm on Field 1 at the Field of Dreams, but the girls are on a two week Easter Break after this Saturday’s game.
