YWFS 13, Girls Softball All-Stars 9

The SOL Petroleum All-Star Softball Series took place on March 30th-31st at the Field of Dreams. On Tuesday evening the Girls Softball All-Stars took on the Young Women’s Fastpitch Softball (YWFS) ladies. It was a very competitive game, with both teams entertaining the crowd with some powerful hits, slick fielding, rocket throws, and great catches!

Girls Softball All-Stars were: Stephanie Menko, Demae Lee, Sofia Watler, Keirsten McLaughlin (SOL Panthers); Clara Ramos, Shay Windsor, Rio Windsor and Madison Malice (SOL Jaguars); and Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin, Aydis Rostran, Kenia Rostran, Aeligha General and Leila Dixon (SOL Pumas). All-Stars Zhanna McDonald and McKenna Knapik were unable to attend.

The All-Stars led 6-5 after the top of the second, before the game turned into a pitchers’ duel in the middle innings. The YWFS team added six runs in the bottom of the fifth and the All-Stars rallied with three runs to make the final score 13-9 for YWFS.

Alikie Kandler led the YWFS squad with three runs and two RBIs. Dayana Lopez-Kelly, Al Ebanks and Daneliz Thomas chipped in with two runs apiece. Breana Welds was dominant in her two innings of pitching on the mound. The YWFS squad was made up of 18-27 year-olds, most of them former players in the CI Little League and/or Women’s fastpitch softball.

Jialy and Demae scored two runs each for the All-Stars, and Jialy had an exciting RBI triple to the fence in left field. Aydis was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Clara held the YWFS scoreless in her inning of pitching and Demae and Sofia allowed just one run each when they took the mound in the third and fourth innings.

After the contest both teams agreed that it was a fun night and a really competitive game. The game ball was presented to winning coach Marlon Thomas, who did a great job in preparing the YWFS team over the previous two months.

Girls Softball All-Stars 14, Coaches/Parents 12

On Wednesday night the Girls Softball All-Stars played an inspiring game, using a six run rally in the fifth inning to defeat a very capable team of Coaches/Parents, 14-12. The girls had some excellent hits, great base-running and a few good catches in the outfield to take it to their elders!

Leila Dixon, Aydis Rostran, Demae Lee, Clara Ramos and Sofia Walter each scored two runs for the All-Stars, who featured a balanced attack throughout the line-up. Jialy had a triple deep to the fence in right-centre for the big hit of the game. Sofia only allowed one run in her inning of pitching, while Aydis allowed just two runs in two innings. Sofia, Jialy and Leila all made fine catches in the outfield, and Rio Windsor turned an unassisted double play in the sixth inning to secure the win.

Alikie Kandler led the Coaches/Parents, going 3 for 3 at the plate with two singles and a triple, while also scoring three runs with excellent base-running. Marco Rostran, Lisa Malice and Jason Windsor each scored twice. Pitayo Whittaker was the leading pitcher for the adults, allowing just one run in two innings on the mound.

There was great energy throughout the contest and it was enjoyed by players and spectators alike. The game ball was presented to Coach Erwyn Freeland, who guided the girls their much-deserved win.
