SOL Pumas 8, Sol Panthers 3

The Girls Softball Tournament continued on Wednesday, March 24th as the SOL Pumas advanced to the finals with an 8-3 victory over the SOL Panthers.

The contest was a defensive battle as each team only managed three hits on the night.

The SOL Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead with great defense and a two run homer to right field by Stephanie Menko, which scored Eowyn Hawkins.

The SOL Pumas bounced back with three runs in the top of the second, with Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin, Tracey Campbell and Stefany Martinez scoring. They took advantage of two three walks and two errors, with Jialy’s single being the only hit of the inning.

Meanwhile, SOL Pumas pitcher Aydis Rostran was in command during the second and third innings, allowing no runs and finishing the game with six strikeouts. Other than Stephanie’s big homerun the SOL Panthers bats were quiet on this night.

The SOL Pumas added another run in the third inning and tallied four insurance runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.

Aleigha General, Lindsay Bodden and Stefany each earned two walks for the victors, while combining to score five runs.

Aydis was awarded the game ball for her complete game pitching performance.

SOL Jaguars 16, SOL Pumas 6

The Girls Softball Tournament ended on Saturday, March 27th, as the SOL Jaguars had an impressive team performance in clinching the championship, 16-6 over the SOL Pumas.

The game was tied at 3-3 after an inning, but it was all SOL Jaguars after that. The victors scored at least two runs in every inning, with sisters Shay and Rio Windsor combining for seven runs on the night. Madison Malice added three runs and Janey Veilleux scored twice, following impressive hits. Zhanna McDonald pitched very well in her two innings of work and she had an excellent line drive hit down the right field line to cap off a six run second inning. Clara Ramos pitched a great second inning, allowing just one run to the normally potent SOL Pumas.

The regular season champions SOL Pumas were led by Aydis Rostran and Aleigha General, who each reached base all three times. Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin and Lindsay Bodden were on base twice, with Jialy scoring two runs. Shortstop Angelie Bodden made a good catch on a wicked line drive for one of the top defensive plays of the night.

SOL Jaguars Head Coach John Cridland was presented with the game ball to congratulate him on the tournament victory and to thank him for many years of service to Little League.

Lots of photos were taken prior to the game, including some with representatives from SOL Petroleum, and players and coaches got a chance to thank the sponsors for their generous support this season.

Medals, trophies and awards were handed out to the players following the game. Most improved players were awarded to Jahzara Barnes (SOL Panthers), Janey Veilleux (SOL Jaguars) and Tracey Campbell (SOL Pumas). Sportsmanship awards were presented to Stephanie Menko (SOL Panthers), Valentina Bustos (SOL Jaguars) and Aleigha General (SOL Pumas).

The twelve Girls Softball All-Stars are scheduled to play a two game series this week against the Young Women’s Fastpitch team on Tuesday and the parents/coaches team on Wednesday. Both games begin at 6:30 pm.
