Guardians Alive's 1st unofficial event was held in Aug 2015 and annually since April 2016 by Adonza and Shanan Harrison. They found other like-minded persons we now call “Guardians”, to assist with achieving their collective vision. The group was formally registered in the Cayman Islands in July 2017 as Guardians Alive (GA) to carry out its charitable objectives. Its core mission promotes and fosters a healthy, vibrant & active community for all ages and all fitness levels.
Each year GA events connect our community with experienced local athletes, approved clubs and prizes to facilitate training safely, being well and excelling in wellness year-round. You can register to do either the 2.5K, 5K, 10K or 2 of the low or non-impact beach & water activities. Natural wellness is promoted after the chosen activities to aid in toxin-free rehydration/recovery like samples of fresh local coconut water, fresh fruit and the founders’ famous local egg omelet station. We also link with other charitable race events for prizes and encourage our participants to support them throughout the year.
The 7th annual Guardians Alive event will take place on 10th April 2021 at 6am at the 7 Mile Public Beach. We will be honoring the memory of Coach Derek Larner and supporting the Cancer Society. Coach Derek was not only our Race & Timing Director, he was also an honorary, veteran Guardian since 2016. With passion for his community, he founded the 345 Athletic Club and has trained most of the fastest runners on island. Coach Derek also provided timing and consultation to the majority of our numerous race events where he spends most weekends supporting them. He has left an indelible mark on the lives of our young athletes and community as a whole.
With the assistance of the corporate community, merchandise sales and donations, Guardians Alive have raised thousands to date to support the work of other non-profit organizations such as Meals on Wheels, ALS Cayman, Cayman’s ARK Mentorship Program, Alex Panton’s Foundation, and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. These organizations help support the persons we seek to support as well.
