Chief Minister Hubert Benjamin Hughes

On behalf of myself and the Parliament of the Cayman Islands, I write expressing my deep felt sadness to hear of the passing of former Chief Minister Hubert Benjamin Hughes.

It’s understandable that the citizens and people of Anguilla are mourning the death of a stalwart and giant in the political arena. Also considering he has served stints as Chief Minister which spanned over four decades of his political life, since 1976.

He was an affable and an effective representative to the people of Anguilla and his tenacity and involvement impacted positively on other overseas territories. He has influenced socio-economical growth and brought political maturity to the political landscape with his leadership attributes. He always stood adamantly for the interest of Anguilla as he made his representation at the Joint Ministerial Council meetings in London.

We extend our deep and heartfelt sympathies as your island has lost an outstanding patriot and nation builder.

We wish the people of Anguilla all the strength and comfort during this difficult time. Please accept on behalf of members of Parliament our sincere condolences for your loss.
