On Tuesday, 19 September at 2PM Cayman time, London-based, Caymanian fashion designer, Jawara Alleyne will present his Spring/Summer 2024 (SS24) Collection “Beach Business”, during London Fashion Week.  Caymanians and global citizens alike have the opportunity to be among the first to view the runway show on Instagram livestream. “SS24 Beach Business” is inspired by Jawara’s own and observed life experiences of others in the Cayman Islands.

While this is not Jawara’s first time showcasing at London Fashion Week, this is his debut as a standalone designer. Not wanting to reveal too many details prior to the unveiling of the collection, Jawara does hint at what viewers can expect from what he coins as “Island Underground” style. “When looking at the dress codes of youth on island, I begun to categorise and dream up new and developed iterations. Beach Island Streetwear has a sense of ease, sexiness and coolness in both temperature and temperament. Practicality in the form of casual t-shirts, loose button-downs, polos and baggy jeans set the precedent for the story and collection overall”, explained the Jamaican/Caymanian designer who has already worked with the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Tems, Bella Hadid, Jorja Smith, Kendrick Lamar and featured in major fashion publications like Vogue, Dazed, ID and Harper’s Bazaar amongst others.

London Fashion Week, like other major fashion weeks in cities around the world, traditionally consists of two main events per year: the Spring/Summer (SS) and Autumn/Winter (AW) collections. London Fashion Week SS, takes place from 15th to 19th September 2023 and focuses on clothing and collections that are intended for the following spring and summer seasons. Designers showcase lighter and more vibrant designs suitable for warm weather.

Cayman Islands Government Minister, Honourable Bernie Bush is scheduled to attend the runway show sitting amongst major fashion industry influencers and luminaries, all in support of the Government scholarship alumnus who is gaining global recognition whilst waving the flag for Cayman. “An investment in locally nurtured talent, is an investment in the future well-being of Cayman and highlights the growing local art scene internationally. Jawara’s dedication to his discipline has demonstrated a commitment to exemplify artistic excellence and academic achievement. We are proud and support what he has accomplished and excited to see what else he has in store for the future. It is truly inspirational”, added the Minister responsible for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage.

The event is being sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Tourism and Transport. Jawara has expressed his eternal gratitude to the people and Government of the Cayman Islands adding, “True gratitude is demonstrative. I am committed to keeping my ties to the Cayman Islands stronger than Silver Thatch rope, through more collaborations with local programmes, mentorship of local artists and leveraging each opportunity to tell authentic stories that also pays homage to the Caymanian experience.”
