Johnathon Bedasse Announced as 2020 Dart Scholar

Johnathon Bedasse is the 2020 recipient of the William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship. A graduate of Cayman Prep & High School, Bedasse is following his passion for economics and music to Columbia University in New York City where he will begin studies in the fall.

Dart Chief Executive Officer Mark VanDevelde says, “The William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded student who achieves academic excellence and is actively involved in our community. Johnathon’s focus, time management and excellent communication skills, along with his tenacity will all prove beneficial throughout the next exciting steps in the achievement of his tertiary educational goals.”

After achieving exceptional scores on his A-Levels, Bedasse chose Columbia University – a private Ivy League research university in New York City - for its intimate, analytical and discussion-based classes, and rigorous, multidisciplinary music programme.

Throughout high school, Bedasse balanced commitment to his studies with active participation in a variety of philanthropic extracurricular activities. He served as Key Club President for two years, achieving the Kiwanis Service Award in 2018, and his involvement with the Princeton Model United Nations conference earned him the MVMUNer Award in 2019.

In addition to giving back to his community and excelling academically, Bedasse has been extremely successful in Cayman’s music industry. He achieved his associates in piano, gaining the impressive title of Young Musician of the Year in 2018. A musician of many talents, Bedasse is also an exemplary violinist and played first violin in the Cayman Youth Orchestra throughout high school. He achieved the Cayman Arts Festival Scholarship in 2019 and has performed at a variety of local events.

The William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to financially support students for up to a maximum of four years in their bachelor’s degree, provide internship opportunities with Dart as well as mentoring opportunities allowing them to establish connections and networking within the Dart organisation.
