Leader of the Opposition New Year’s Message

Government 05 Jan, 2026 Follow News

Hon Joseph Hew

Good evening, Cayman Islands. As we stand on the threshold of a new year, we reflect on the journey we’ve shared — the triumphs, the challenges, and the strength of our people. For love of country, we remain committed to uplifting every community and protecting the future of these islands we all call home.

As we welcome the New Year, we do so with cautious optimism. Caymanians are resilient and capable, but we must remain vigilant as important decisions are made that will shape our future.

Over the past months, the People’s Progressive Movement has raised serious concerns about the Government’s approach to the national budget. Significant borrowing has been proposed without sufficient clarity around long-term planning or accountability. Responsible financial management must protect today’s needs without burdening future generations, and Caymanians deserve transparency and people-focused investment.

Immigration reform is another issue causing uncertainty for families and businesses alike. While protecting Caymanian opportunities is essential, the lack of clear communication and consultation has created confusion and concern. Immigration policy must be balanced, practical, and well understood — strengthening our workforce while safeguarding Caymanian livelihoods.

Looking ahead, the PPM continues to grow as a movement rooted in community and civic duty.

Through the expansion of our Women’s Arm and Youth Arm, and by encouraging everyday Caymanians — especially young, working Caymanians — to step forward, we are building leadership that reflects the real experiences of our people.

Leadership exists beyond Parliament. It lives in our homes, workplaces, and communities. Our country needs fresh voices, practical solutions, and leaders who understand the realities of everyday life.

From our PPM family to yours, Happy New Year. Now more than ever, for love of country.
