Man charged for making False Report

Shortly before 5:00PM on Sunday, 26 October, police received a call made from a public facility, in which the caller claimed that they had placed bombs in West Bay. Officers immediately conducted enquiries with the support of facility staff and determined that the call had been made by a man who had visited there recently. Based on this information, the officers were able to track down the man nearby and spoke to him, at which point he admitted that he had not placed any bombs and that the report was not true. The man was arrested by the officers and taken into custody. Based on the initial response of the first responding officers, a thorough investigation followed and police were able to determine that there was no credible threat to the public.

As a result of the investigation the man, age 43, residing in West Bay, has since been formally charged with Making a False Report, and appeared before the court on Wednesday, 29 October, where he was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return on 5 November.

The RCIPS would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter, and would like to remind the community that making a false report is an offense. The RCIPS will take proactive steps to prosecute any individual who commits such an offense.
