High standard in the men’s category
Natural bodybuilding took centre stage at Camana Bay’s Arts & Recreation Centre as Drug Free Athletes Coalition Caribbean hosted the Muscle Mayhem.
The event on October 10, showcased athletes across multiple divisions from transformation categories to amateur, professional and wellness classes.
A total of 25 competitors stepped on stage, including athletes from the United States and Jamaica, alongside Cayman’s diverse local contingent representing backgrounds from Cuba, Costa Rica, Ireland and Venezuela.
The Men’s Amateur Athletic Open delivered an allCayman podium, with Kevin Castro taking top honours, followed by Saif Mahad and Leslie Chin.
In Men’s Amateur Bodybuilding, Jamaica’s Malik Griffiths claimed the win and the overall amateur male title, earning his DFAC Pro card. Cayman’s Ahmaree Piercy finished second, with Johnnie McCarthy of Jamaica in third.
Cayman’s Ana Maria Perez Rojas captured the Pro/Am Bikini title and the overall female crown, securing her DFAC Pro status. Annalisa Shibly also earned a meritbased spot, awarded to athletes who excel across the division and demonstrate strong overall group performance.
These bodybuilders are judged on far more than looks alone. The core criteria are muscularity, symmetry, proportion, conditioning, posing, and stage presence.
Bodybuilding is a performance sport, not a beauty contest which explains why some of the audience expressed their displeasure over certain decisions.
That was why a slightly smaller athlete with perfect symmetry and posing can beat a bigger athlete who lacks balance or conditioning. The judges were mainly Caymanian so there was little reason to accuse of bias.
