No let-up in Covid increase

As at the end of April there was a continuing upward trend in the number of Covid cases being reported in the Cayman Islands.

During the last week in April (to 30 April) there were a total of 604 new cases of Covid-19 reported by Public Health, an increase of 144 cases over what was reported in the previous week.

Officials noted that 1,897 tests were conducted in the last week of April, compared to 1,419 tests the previous week and 1,427 tests the week before that. Out of all the tests that were conducted in the last week of April, 32 per cent were positive.

People are continuing to need hospitalisation because of the effects of Covid, with nine in-patients admitted to hospital in the last week of April. Of these, 60 per cent were vaccinated. There have been 267 COVID-19 patients admitted since March 2020 to 30 April 2022.

The number of deaths in the Cayman Islands from Covid related causes remains at 27 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
