The 2026 Youth Flag Football season passed its Week 4 mark on Saturday with 9 games including 18 teams taking the field.
The 14U matchup between the Doctors Express Patriots and Uncle Bill’s Hurricanes would be the first game of the season in any division to be decided by Overtime. Following game regulation and a game tied 13-13, Patriot’s receiver Aryon Perera would catch a touchdown pass from QB Mason Malice in the back of the end zone in overtime, and ultimately sealing the win for his team. “Coming off of a loss last week, it was great to see the kids rally together, pumping each other up and coming out on top”, says team Assistant Coach Jen Choice.
Earlier in the day the Mourant Cardinals climbed to 4-0 in the 8U division after taking down the Agile Fit Parrots 19-6. The Parrots would be the first to score on a long touchdown run, and Coach Brad Conolly of the Cardinals could be heard letting his team know, this could be their game to lose if they didn’t focus. That seemed to be the ‘tune-up’ the team needed as soon after QB Harry Isbister would fake a run to Ethan Thompson, and hit Sebastian Burrell who would take it to the house and tie the game. Seeming to now believe in their Coaches instructions to focus, the Cardinals would own the 2nd half and add two more touchdowns to their score. In their breakdown huddle after the game, Ethan Thompson, would be named the team’s sideline warrior!

In addition to team play, the Grassroots Division that starts the day welcomes kids 4-6 years old and many are new to the sport. After 4 weeks you couldn’t tell that though as they’re all learning and progressing. “Creating a space where kids can come in and learn at their own pace amongst other kids their age every Saturday is my favorite part of the league. I can’t wait to see some of them transition over to teams next year, and bring what they’ve learned in Grassroots as their foundation.”, says Coach Kandre Amerally.
Lastly, the biggest group of the day doesn’t belong to any team. The Female Development League is moving full steam ahead and continuing to welcome new faces every session. Having a mix of Coaches from current Youth League teams in addition to current National Team players is key to the exposure for the ladies. Following a practice and drills session on Monday, the group splits into 4 teams for game play on Saturday. “It’s great seeing the amount of young women out here. To go from a couple of girls on each team with the boys, to seeing that an all girls league is now a reality, it makes me that more interested to be involved.”, Ashley Wood, current Women’s National Team player. The future is definitely bright for these young women and we are super excited for things to come.
