The much-loved celebration of Pirates Week will be sharply curtailed this year due to Covid restrictions, as the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage and the Pirates Week Office have advised that the November’s Pirates Week 2021 landing, parade and district day activities have been postponed due to safety concerns with the ongoing community spread of Covid-19.
There is a small ray of hope for some fun, however, as, despite the postponement of the larger events, organisers confirm that the 41st Pirates Week 5k Sea Swim will still take place on Saturday, 13 November 2021 at the Governor’s Beach. The race starts at 7am with registration from 6am to 6:45am. Discussions are underway for possible firework displays in various districts (and the Ministry says that the details, times and dates will be confirmed.
