UPDATE: Police Investigate Fatal Collision on West Bay Road, 26 May
Shortly after 4:00AM on Thursday, 26 May, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on West Bay Road, in the vicinity of Safehaven Drive, involving a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Honda Civic, each with a single occupant.
The driver of the Honda, who was trapped in the vehicle, was extricated by Fire Officers and transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital via ambulance. The man, age 41, was subsequently pronounced dead.
The driver of the Hyundai received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital, treated and subsequently released. Following his release, the man, age 24 of West Bay, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He has been bailed as investigations continue.
West Bay Road was closed temporarily following the accident, but has since been fully reopened.
