This past Saturday, December 6 was a day to remember for fans of ‘the powerful game’ as the exciting 2025 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) Champions Cup and Consolation Cup semi-finals took centre stage.
CUC GPFL Consolation Cup:
With Cayman Prep GB receiving a bye to the final due to their league position, the semi-final matchup between the young ladies from Marie Martin Primary and Cayman International School (CIS) Blue ended in a 2-0 victory for CIS Blue. CIS Blue will play Cayman Prep GB in the final.
CUC GPFL Champions Cup:
In the first semi-final, Cayman Prep GA scored early and held on for a 1-0 victory over Sir John A. Cumber Primary. The second semi-final pitted Joanna Clarke Primary against 2024 runners-up NorthEast Schools with the latter securing a hard-fought 3-2 win after an exciting penalty shootout (0-0 full time; 0-0 over time; and 3-2 penalties). NorthEast Schools will play Cayman Prep GA in the final with Sir John A. Cumber and Joanna Clarke Primary playing for third-place.
CUC PFL Under 9 Consolation Cup:
Joanna Clarke Primary got past Sir John A. Cumber Primary 1-0 and Island Primary 9B beat Marie Martin Primary 4-0. Joanna Clarke Primary will meet Island Primary 9B in the final.
CUC PFL Under 9 Champions Cup:
It will be an all-private school final on December 13 as Island Primary 9A got the better of Prospect Primary 3-1 and Cayman Prep 9A downed St. Ignatius Catholic 3-0. Island Primary 9A meet Cayman Prep 9A in the final and Prospect Primary play St. Ignatius Catholic for third-place.
CUC PFL Under 11 Consolation Cup:
Cayman Brac reached their first Under 11 cup final as they came from behind to defeat Cayman Prep 11B 2-1 while Red Bay Primary benefitted from a last-minute strike to down Joanna Clarke Primary outfit 2-1 in two very exciting semi-finals. Cayman Brac will meet Red Bay Primary in the final.
CUC PFL Under 11 Champions Cup:
In what has become one of the closest and most competitive Under 11 playoff competitions in recent years, eight-time defending undefeated champions Cayman Prep 11A will defend their title against 2024 Under 11 Consolation Cup champions and undefeated Marie Martin Primary.
The final promises to be an interesting encounter as Cayman Prep 11As talented forwards will face a well-coached and disciplined Marie Martin Primary rearguard that has yet to concede a goal in the playoffs.
In the semi-finals, Marie Martin Primary got past Island Primary 1-0 while Cayman Prep 11A needed penalties to beat a spirited St. Ignatius Catholic outfit 2-1 (0-0 full time; 0-0 over time; 2-1 penalties).
Island Primary will play St. Ignatius Catholic for third-place honours.
The 2025 CUC PFL/GPFL finals and third-place games and trophy presentations set for this Saturday, December 13. All games will be played at the Annex Field.
