Red Bay Primary (burgundy), seen here playing against CIS in an earlier game, defeated Prospect Primary this past Saturday

With yet another weekend threatened with heavy rain and unavoidable postponements this past Saturday, November 21, the seventh and final round of regular season games were played in the 2020 CUC Primary Football League (PFL).

Play in the CUC Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) Under 11s continued as well with seventh round games.

In CUC PFL Group B action, Prospect Primary visited Red Bay Primary and what a show it was for the spectators in attendance. Both games were truly excellent and great examples of what thrills and enjoyment primary school football can bring to players and supporters alike.

Red Bay’s Under 9s were ferocious as they pestered and hurried their opponents for the full 40 minutes. In response, Prospect Primary held their own for much of the game with some fine defending but were unable to quell the ‘burgundy wave’. Red Bay’s Jaidin Myles opened the scoring in the 19th minute and Trey Levy added a double in the 21st and 38th minutes to seal a 3-0 win and the three points.

In the Under 11 match-up, the same high intensity from both teams was apparent. Prospect’s defence was up for the challenge and defended expertly as they continuously disrupted the barrage of Red Bay attacks. Red Bay’s captain Seth Ebanks was the hero on the day as he scored a penalty in the 16th minute and finished off an attack that was the cause of an own goal in a 2-1 victory for Red Bay. Prospect’s Jhasean Cousins thought he had secured a point for his school in the 44th minute but it was not to be.

In other Group B games, it was Cayman Prep 9A 4 vs. South Sound Schools 0 (Under 9; respect rule), Cayman Prep 11A 3 vs. South Sound Schools 2 (Under 11) and Theoline L. McCoy 0 vs. NorthEast Schools 4 (Under 11; respect rule).

In Group A, it was George Town Primary 0 vs. Savannah Primary 2 (Under 9), George Town Primary 1 vs. Savannah Primary 1 (Under 11), St. Ignatius Catholic 3 vs. Cayman Prep 9B 0 (Under 9), St. Ignatius Catholic 1 vs. Cayman Prep 11B 1 (Under 11), Cayman International School 4 vs. Truth For

Youth 0 (Under 9; respect rule) and Cayman International School 4 vs. Truth For Youth 0 (Under 11; respect rule).

In the CUC GPFL, Cayman Prep Blue edged out Cayman International School 1-0 to go top of the table thanks to a strike from Olivia Ridley in the 26th minute. The game was the ‘battle of the undefeateds’ as both schools were yet to lose a game up until Saturday.

In other CUC GPFL games, it was St. Ignatius Catholic 4 vs. Cayman Prep Red 0, George Town Primary 0 vs. Savannah Primary 2 and Sir John A. Cumber Primary 0 vs. Savannah Primary 4 (respect rule).

The 2020 CUC PFL Playoffs begin this Saturday, November 28 with the quarterfinals at the Annex Field. The CUC GPFL regular season continues with games also at the Annex Field this Saturday.
