The Department of Agriculture is urging all livestock and pet owners — especially those in low-lying or flood-prone areas — to take immediate steps to protect their animals.
Key Precautions:
• Relocate animals to higher ground to avoid rising water.
• Provide well-drained, covered shelters and dry bedding to prevent illness.
• Secure escape routes for animals in case of sudden flooding.
• Keep animals clear of electrical lines and wires.
• Ensure containers and feed supplies are properly secured to prevent contamination.
REMEMBER: Failing to move animals from hazardous areas — resulting in unnecessary suffering — is considered animal cruelty and is a criminal offense under the Cayman Islands Animals Act (2024 Revision).
