Red Bay Primary secure victories

With the unsettled weather continuing to play havoc during the week with high school football games, schools competing in the 2026 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) were grateful for the cooler temperatures and overcast skies as they took to the fields this past Saturday, October 3.

In Group B in the CUC PFL, Red Bay Primary enjoyed home field advantage as both boys’ teams secured wins. After escaping bruising encounters with defending champions Cayman Prep 9A and Cayman Prep 11A the previous week, Red Bay’s Under 9s topped an energetic Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9C outfit 1-0 thanks to a strike from Josiah Simpson in the 25th minute.

The Under 11 match-up against Footsteps School was an extremely entertaining affair. Footsteps School’s shot stopper August Bodden was in fine form throughout the game pulling off some great saves to keep the Red Bay forwards at bay. In the 19th minute, Red Bay’s Immanuel Quina broke the deadlock as he raced away from the Footsteps backline and finished superbly past a sprawling Bodden to put his school 1-0 up.

Footsteps School levelled the score in the 34th minute after Kaitlyn Myles was the quickest to react pouncing on a blocked shot from the Red Bay goalkeeper. Not to be outdone, Red Bay quickly retook the lead in the 35th minute as defender Ozzy Patterson blasted an unstoppable shot from outside the box into the top corner past the outstretched arms of Bodden to win the game 2-1.

In other Group B Under 9 games, Prospect Primary downed First Baptist CS 4-0 (respect rule), Cayman Prep 9A beat Island Primary 9C 4-0 (respect rule) and NorthEast Schools defeated Island Primary 9B 5-1 (respect rule).

In Under 11 games, Prospect Primary beat First Baptist CS 2-0 in a game that was played on Wednesday, September 30, Cayman Prep 11A received all three points and a 4-0 win after Cayman Brac were unable to travel due to illness in the team and Island Primary 11A downed NorthEast Schools 4-0 (respect rule). In Group A in the Under 9 division, Sir John A. Cumber Primary got the better of Theoline L. McCoy Primary 3-2, Cayman International School beat Marie Martin Primary 4-0 (respect rule), Joanna Clarke Primary defeated Cayman Prep 9B 6-2 and Island Primary 9A beat Cayman Prep 9C 4-0 (respect rule).

In the Under 11 division, Sir John A. Cumber Primary defeated Theoline L. McCoy Primary 4-0 (respect rule), Marie Martin Primary drew 4-4 with Cayman International School and Joanna Clarke Primary downed Cayman Prep 11B 5-1.

In the GPFL division in Group A, Cayman International School got past Marie Martin Primary 4-0 (respect rule) and Cayman Prep GB edged Joanna Clarke Primary 2-1.

In the only Group B girl’s game, Cayman Prep GA defeated Island Primary GC 2-0.

Week 4 games scheduled for this Saturday, October 10 will be played at the Annex Field, Prospect Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary, Red Bay Primary, West Bay Town Hall Field, Island Primary and Camana Bay SC.

As coordinators of the CUC PFL/GPFL, the Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL) organisation thanks Progressive Distributors and Gatorade for their continuing support of the CUC PFL and GPFL and Winners Circle for their support of the youth referees.
