Rotary Sunrise Backpack Project

The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise (Rotary Sunrise) donated 60 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) so that they can distribute to students in Grand Cayman most in need at this time.

The President of Rotary Sunrise, Stacy Parke, Vice President (Admin) Winston Connolly, along with Co-Directors of Community Service Marlon Bodden and Ferlyn Heyne presented the backpacks to the Director of DCFS, Paulinda Mendoza-Williams on Monday 24th August 2020 at their offices in George Town.

Director Paulinda stated “The department is truly grateful for this wonderful donation of school supplies. The supplies will ensure that our children have the tools needed to begin the new academic with confidence and support their success throughout the year” In each backpack was a card and quote from President Stacy which stated, “A good education, will give you the opportunity to make a real difference in your life and community.”

Each of the backpacks had a smiling face pin on it and was packed with the following supplies that was on Years 4,5 and 6 school list:

• Box of colored pencils

• Composition book

• 2 Pocket folders

• Box of dry eraser markers

• Cloth pencil case

• Glue stick

• Pair of scissors

• 2 HB #2 pencils

• 2 head sharper

• 2 Pens

• Wooden Ruler

• USB flash drive (4GB)

• Hand sanitizers

• Eco-friendly water bottle; and

• Headphone

In addition, Rotary Sunrise will also be donating 60 reusable kids facemasks to DCFS for their distribution to children in need. Also 12 backpacks filled with the same supplies would be donated to the Rotary Sunrise Early Act children at George Town Primary School. And additional school supplies will be supplied to DCFS Cayman Brac, so that the children in Cayman Brac would also have access to needed school supplies.

Rotary Sunrise would like to thank its members and friends of Rotary who participated in the back to school backpack project to make this donation possible.
