Santa Turtle stops by Cayman Brac with a surprise gift

Santa Turtle stopped by the Brac with a welcome addition to the islands already busy season, reports Bonnie Scott of the Brac Turtle patrol.

The late laying Hawksbill surprised members of the turtle patrol who immediately set off to see if Mamma Turtle had been busy around other parts of the island.

Turtle Watch is a group of volunteers under the guidance of the Department of Environment of the Cayman Islands which promotes sea turtle conservation and education by locating and protecting nests, evaluating and reporting nest statistics, helping stranded hatchlings get to the sea, and involving citizens in protecting these endangered animals.

Members of the Turtle Patrol were excited by the event. Quotes as follows:

“Perhaps it is a sign of better days to come - just like the Christmas Star.”

“Christmas miracles.”

“WOW! A Christmas nest. I wonder if this is a record.”

“That’s an amazing Brac Christmas gift.”

“Especially in light if other things trying to happen on the Brac. Seems like a sign from the turtles.”
