Action from the St. Ignatius Catholic (purple) versus Cayman Prep 11B boy’s game.
With the majority of local schools enjoying the first weekend of their Mid-Term Break this past Saturday, October 17, there were only a handful of games played in the CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL).
In Group A in the CUC PFL, St. Ignatius Catholic School’s Under 9s downed Cayman Prep 9B 4-0 (respect rule) with Kingston Leslie scoring a double in the 1st and 2nd minutes and Ronald Bolt and James Ingram rounding off the scoring in the 17th and 21st minutes respectively.
In the Under 11 match-up, much like their younger Under 9 school mates, St. Ignatius Catholic were just too strong for Cayman Prep 11B as the home team ran out 4-0 winners (respect rule).
In the Under 11 girl’s game, against their hosts St. Ignatius Catholic, Cayman Prep GB could only field a starting team minus any substitutes. With their depleted numbers, Prep GB played very well showing a lot of heart as they held their opponents at bay for much of the game, even managing to score a goal in a 3-1 loss.
In other CUC PFL Group A Under 9 action, Island Primary 9A defeated Marie Martin Primary 4-0 and Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9A beat Cayman Prep 9C 3-0. In the only other Under 11 game, Marie Martin Primary defeated Island Primary 11B 4-0 (respect rule).
In the only Group B game in the Under 11 division, Cayman Brac beat Red Bay Primary 3-1 in Cayman Brac. With flights to and from Grand Cayman being heavily affected by the Mid-Term Break, it was more convenient for Red Bay Primary to travel to and from Cayman Brac. Through the gracious assistance from the Sports Association of the Sister Islands (SASI) and the Cayman Brac coaches, the trip was arranged very quickly and Red Bay Primary made the trip over to the Sister Islands.
There are no primary school football games scheduled for this Saturday, October 24. Games will resume on Saturday, October 31 once all schools are back in session.
As coordinators of the CUC PFL/GPFL, the Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL) organisation thank Progressive Distributors and Gatorade for their continuing support of the CUC PFL and GPFL and Winners Circle for their support of the youth referees.
