Talk On the Street: New Year’s Resolutions

With us having just walked into 2023, this publication wanted to find out what people’s resolutions would be, regarding their personal finances or budget. So, this reporter took to the streets.  The specific question posed was, “What are your resolutions or goals for your finances/budget in 2023?”  Below are the responses of 12 persons.

George, Caymanian, 45:

“I plan on getting rid of some credit card debt that I have.  It’s not much, but after I get rid of it, I will cut up that card.”

Freda, Filipina on work permit, 46:

“I would like to send home 30 percent of my salary to help my mother and sister.”

Nathaniel, Caymanian, 34:

“I hadn’t thought about anything specific but, I guess I would like to eliminate some debt so that I can qualify for a piece of land.”

Daniella, Caymanian, 31:

“I want to buy my first house.  I have already been approved for a loan.  I just have to find the right house.”

Henry, Jamaican on work permit, 42:

“I am going to finish paying off my piece of land back in Jamaica.  I only owe two hundred thousand JA dollars now.”

Jake, Caymanian, 32:

“I will save two hundred dollars every month and put in my vacation fund.  I want to take a trip next year.”

Brian, Caymanian, 59:

“I will retire from the civil service on my birthday in July this year.  Then, I will start my own business.”

Violet, Caymanian, 32:

“I will put aside five hundred dollars from my paycheck every month.”

Candice, South African on work permit, 53:

“It would be nice if I can get a new car.  The one I have now is falling apart.”

Nicholas, Caymanian, 48:

“I will get a better job.  By better job, I mean a higher paying one.”

Bruce, Caymanian, 48:

“I want to move to a bigger apartment but the rent prices are going up so I don’t know if I will be able to do that.  I might have to stay where I am.”

Michael, Caymanian, 47:

“If everything goes as planned, by the end of the year I will have a new house, a new car, and a new boat.  My business is really taking off right now.  So, here’s hoping that it continues the way it has been going.”

Melanie, Caymanian, 53:

“I am going to take a few classes at UCCI and finish my Associates degree.  Then I will start my own business and begin my journey to becoming a millionaire.”
