Tank rolls on but stays selective

Gervonta “Tank” Davis remains unbeaten

Gervonta “Tank” Davis confirmed his superstar status with a world title at a third weight in impressive fashion.

The 26-year-old super-featherweight (130lbs) world champion moved up two divisions to super-lightweight (140lbs) and knocked out a solid unbeaten fighter in Mario Barrios last Saturday in Las Vegas in the eleventh round.

The fight was staged by Floyd Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions and Al Haymon’s PBC – with both fighters represented by Haymon.

This is the pattern Mayweather wants Davis to follow for the time being. He said at the post-fight press conference when Gervonta was asked about his next fight: “His team are gonna take care of that.

“Our thing is this, we work smarter, not harder. So we keep everything in-house. Mayweather Promotions/PBC, we’re all one family. We’re not gonna go away and make another company great.

“We’ve got plenty at 140lbs, 135lbs, 130lbs. We’re gonna continue to fight the fighters that we’ve got to fight.”

This news will come as a blow to purists as the majority of the best fighters in those divisions are not in the PBC stable.
