Coach Dexter was pleased with their performances
Team Cayman’s star swimming duo did themselves proud at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) in Santo Domingo last week.
The two teenagers left the Dominican Republic with a wealth of international experience, a collection of personal bests, and multiple finals appearances.
Adam Sellars swam a huge lifetime best of 4 minutes 23.04 seconds in the 400 metres freestyle heats, earning his place in the final and showing excellent progression as the meet went on.
Kate Galatopoulos faced one of the toughest schedules of the meet, racing the 200M breaststroke and 400M freestyle less than 15 minutes apart. Despite the quick turnaround, she qualified for both finals, lowering her 200M breaststroke by three seconds to finish 12th overall, before returning to the pool later to take another three seconds off her morning 400M freestyle swim and finish 13th overall.
On the fifth and final day both took on the 200M freestyle. After strong morning heats, they qualified for the evening finals, where they each improved on their prelim performances again.
Accompanied by Coach Dexter Bligh, Sellars, 17, finished in 2:04.35. Galatopoulos, 15, touched the wall in 2:19.05.
Throughout the week, both demonstrated determination, resilience and maturity beyond their years, competing against some of the best swimmers in the region while continuing to excel in the pool.
