The Potential Divide: Caymanian vs. Non-Caymanian

The Cayman islands is a melting pot of cultures. This situation is common around the globe as many foreign nationals leave their homeland for better employment opportunities or to find a life partner. The Cayman Islands is no exception and in the past 30 years many non-Caymanians travelled to these shores for a better wage and also to avoid paying income taxes in their countries.

These migrants were welcomed as they were able to fill the workforce gaps that existed for a nation with a developing financial Industry.

Today, the chickens have come home as they say, as many Caymanians are finding it difficult to secure jobs that are filled by non- Caymanians. The daily complaints and concerns aired in the media is evidence to this potential divide as some Caymanian employees experience resistance in the workplace.

There has to be a balance and we wish for that day we can all get along. Non-Caymanians form an essential component in our economic model, but on the other hand, Caymanians should not be sidelined.  This media source wiill always publish articles that seek to unite all residents in an attempt to avoid the disastrous division that may result if the current employment situation is not resolved.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie. It is better to share your piece than to build walls to prevent others from taking what they need to survive.

It is time to eliminate the potential divide and work together for the good of all.
