The Visual Arts Society INVITES YOU TO COME DOWN TO CAMANA BAY ON SATURDAY DEC 14TH

The Visual Arts Society (VAS) will be hosting their 9th ANNUAL Christmas Art and Craft Sale on Saturday December 14th from 10 am to 5 pm along the Paseo at Camana Bay. Various tents will be set up with tables full of a variety of locally made arts and crafts. Their products make great gifts for your island friends and family or to send abroad; souvenirs, silk painted scarves, Christmas decorations, hand crafted jewellery, locally scenery prints and so much more.

Marketing Coordinator, Mary McCallum informs us, “The society is a not-for-profit organisations who provide opportunities for Artists of all levels and ages to develop in the art community”. The VAS membership is made up of active artists who participate in pop-up art markets such as the weekly Farmers Artisans Market at Camana Bay on Wednesdays or sell their products at other Art Galleries/studios such as Pure Art or Art Nest. Other members are not active Artists but have a keen interest in supporting local Artists.

Mary further adds, “The Arts Society is sincerely grateful to the sponsorship contributions in kind from Camana Bay, Island Heritage, The Lodge & Eco Den, El Management, Pure Art and their Membership who have all chipped in with assisting VAS making this event possible, we look forward to contributing to the Christmas Spirit this year at our Arts and Craft Sale.”

The Society will be hosting their Annual Christmas Social at the Lodge located at the Strand on December 19. The event will help raise funds for their inventory now needed for art markets and other programmes. The event will include beverages, snacks and prizes for their best dressed Christmas theme, which is all included in the entrance fee. To obtain more information email marymccallum@candw.ky.

In February 2020 VAS will host the ‘Celebration of Music & Art’ featuring local artists in collaboration with the Cayman Arts Festival (CAF). There will be a live music performance presented compliments of CAF at the Members Art Exhibit reception. The event is FREE to the public and the reception will be at the Watler House studio at Pedro’s St. James in the evening of Monday February 17, where they will be offering beverages and nibbles.

VAS has some exciting workshops coming up in 2020 as well; Acrylic painting, watercololurs, figure drawing, ceramics and more. The studio is equipped with easels, art tables, various ceramic tools & materials, 2 ceramic wheels, as well as a kiln for firing. VAS also offers open studios for artists to come and use their studio in the company of other creative minds in a pleasant atmosphere.

The Society also offers useful volunteer opportunities where those interested can learn more about organizing art exhibitions pop up markets, events or assist an instructor at a workshop or help with their kids Arts and Craft programmes.
