Usain Bolt is the greatest ever sprinter
He prefers family life now
Birth: Born on 21 August 1986, in Trelawny Parish, Jamaica, where his parents ran a local grocery store.
Early Passions: Loved cricket and football as a child more than athletics. His school coaches noticed his incredible running speed and steered him toward track and field.
First Success: Won the 200 metre gold medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston aged 15, becoming the youngest male world junior champion ever.
Beijing 2008 Olympics: Rose to global stardom by winning gold and setting world records in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, aged 22.
World Records: Set the current world records for the 100m (9.58 seconds) and 200m (19.19 seconds) at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
The ‘Triple-Triple’: Became the first athlete to win gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m at three consecutive Olympic Games (2008, 2012, and 2016).
Iconic pose: Officially known as his ‘To De World’ pose because it started as a popular Jamaican dance move that he adapted as a fun way to celebrate his victories.
Health issue: Bolt has scoliosis, a condition that causes an abnormal sideways curve in the spine which worsened as he grew during his youth. The condition caused his right leg to be about half an inch shorter than his left leg. Early in his career, the imbalance led to frequent hamstring strains and back tightness that threatened his training.
Retirement: Officially retired from track and field following the 2017 World Championships. He is a father of three: daughter Olympia Lightning was born in 2020 and twin sons are Thunder and Saint Leo, born 2021.
Milestone birthday: Bolt celebrated his 40th birthday last month by getting engaged to his long-time partner, Casey Bennett, while focusing on fatherhood and his business ventures.
Present: Since retiring from elite sprinting nine years ago, Bolt has stepped away from heavy track training and joked that he now gets out of breath just walking up stairs.
Family man: Following a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained during a charity football match, he shifted primarily to light gym workouts and now spends his free time relaxing at home in Jamaica, watching movies, and building Lego sets with his children.
