Vessel Intercepted: 1500lbs of suspected ganja seized

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) can confirm that, at about 2:40AM on Thursday, 14 August, while on patrol, the CICG, supported by the RCIPS Air Operations Unit, intercepted a vessel, with 4 persons onboard in our territorial waters, engaging in what appeared to be illicit maritime activity.

The occupants of the vessel were detained on suspicion of committing the following offenses:

* Illegal Entry into the Cayman Islands,

* Possession of Controlled Drugs, and

* Importation of Controlled Drugs.

The vessel, its contraband and the persons found onboard have since been handed over to the RCIPS for further investigation.

The items recovered were subsequently found to contain over 1500lbs of suspected ganja.
