Water-Related Death in West Bay
At about 3:30PM on Friday 11 April, officers were dispatched to a report of a person in distress at a dock on Raleigh Quay, West Bay. It was reported that a man had been swimming off a private vessel in the waters of the North Sound. Upon returning to the vessel he began to experience difficulties and lost consciousness, Persons aboard the vessel conducted CPR as it made its way to shore. The vessel was met on route by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG), and Coast Guard officers boarded and provided medical assistance, while one of the CICG vessels escorted the private vessel to the dock at Raleigh Quay, where they were met by EMS and Fire.
The man was transferred from the vessel to an ambulance and transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital. He was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The man, age 54, is a visitor from the United States. The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
