At about 6:00PM on Wednesday, 6 January, officers of the RCIPS and EMS staff responded to a report of a person in distress on the beach near the intersection of Mary Mollie Hydes Road and West Bay Road, West Bay. A juvenile male had begun experiencing difficulties while in the water and fell unconscious. He was taken from the water by persons nearby, who conducted CPR until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services. He was then transported by ambulance to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he regained consciousness, and remains in stable condition.

The RCIPS highly commends the members of the public at the scene who quickly came to the assistance of the child and performed CPR, which helped ensure that this incident did not have a tragic outcome.

The matter is currently under investigation.
