“Mentor Map” takes home first place at the Tech Futures Week 2025 Hackathon Challenge!

The Tech Futures Week 2025 Hackathon Challenge took place on Saturday, 11 October 2025, at Cayman Enterprise City’s Signal House. Eight teams competed for a USD $5,000 cash prize by designing and prototyping a platform that helps Caymanians map their lifestyle goals to career opportunities. Participants were given access to comprehensive job market datasets, everyday living costs, and other local economic insights to create digital tools that could help shape the future workforce of the Cayman Islands.

Produced by the Cayman Islands Computer Science Society (CICSS), Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC), and Enterprise Cayman, the Hackathon was part of The Cayman Islands Tech Futures Week 2025,  a dynamic, week-long initiative held from 6 to 11 October 2025 that brought together government leaders, industry experts, educators, and the wider community to spotlight Cayman’s growing tech sector and explore the future of tech careers, workforce readiness, and economic diversification.

“Cayman Islands Tech Futures Week exemplified the type of future-thinking collaboration which is needed to align Cayman’s workforce with the demands of a rapidly-evolving digital economy,” said Reinaldo Fletcher, Manager - Labour Market Demand at Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman. “The Hackathon in particular, played an instrumental role in showcasing some of Cayman’s best talent in delivering technological solutions to a real-world problem in a very short time. This event highlighted skills such as analytical thinking and creative thinking which were displayed by participants, and shows that with the right support and opportunities, Cayman’s talent can drive innovation and create meaningful societal impact. The future of the Cayman Islands is much brighter with the execution of Tech Futures Week 2025, and notably, the Hackathon!”

Enterprise Cayman Programme Manager, Alyssa Manderson commented, “What really stood out to me was the turnout, over 20 Caymanians and residents from various backgrounds registered and invested their time and expertise to develop solutions that enhance the resources available to our community. Seeing that level of commitment and collaboration in action was inspiring, and it truly reflects the growing passion across Cayman. We’re excited to see these platforms come to life and make a tangible difference in the lives of our young Caymanians.”

The winning project, “Mentor Map”, developed by Shannon Williams and Mary Davies, was recognised for its thoughtful design, strong technical execution, and innovative approach to connecting Caymanians with career pathways through training programmes, job openings, and scholarship pathways aligned with their lifestyle aspirations. In addition to the top prize, the “WukLife” team, led by Peter Hudson, Emanuela Passaniti, and Alanna Edwards, received the Teamwork and Collaboration Award, along with a USD $600 cash prize, for their outstanding collaboration.

“The energy and ingenuity that came out of this year’s Hackathon were outstanding,” said Stuart Reavley, Managing Director at Juneau Technologies SEZC and Steering Committee Member of the Cayman Islands Computer Science Society. “From concept to prototype, every team demonstrated impressive technical skill and creativity. The level of collaboration, mentorship, and problem-solving on display shows just how much talent and potential exists within Cayman’s tech community.”

Work on the community hackathon project will continue and a platform connecting Caymanians with career pathways is expected to launch in December 2025.
