Jeremy Scott, WORC new Acting Director

Deputy Director, Jeremy Scott is the new acting Director at Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) effective May 1st, 2020.

From 2018, WORC has been under the leadership of Interim Director, Sharon Roulstone. Ms Roulstone was instrumental in leading the transition from the former Cayman Islands Immigration Department and the National Workforce Development Agency, to the new holistic approach to immigration services and national employment, WORC. While on secondment from the Office of the Ombudsman, she applied her vast knowledge of immigration laws to implement and achieve the new objectives of WORC.

“I thank Ms Roulstone for the passionate service, and dedication she demonstrated as Interim Director, she has left WORC on a firm foundation” remarked Wesley Howell, Chief Officer in the Ministry of Employment and Border Control. “I join with staff members in WORC and colleagues from across the government in thanking her for her service and wish her every success as she advances to her next challenge.”

Newly appointed Acting Director, Mr Scott, brings a wealth of experience with him. He has over 23 years of service with Cayman Islands Government. Mr Scott worked with the legacy Cayman Islands Immigration Department for more than 20 years before taking up the post as Deputy Director responsible for Compliance for WORC in 2018. His experience in understanding the work permits process, Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency applications, business staffing plans and management is exceptionally valuable to the current post. His leadership in Compliance and involvement with Customer Care has allowed him to become well rounded in all areas, making him an ideal choice to lead the department during this time.

Mr Scott says “I am most grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to fill the role of Acting Director and wish to express my gratitude to the Chief Officer and senior team within the Ministry of Employment and Border Control. Being conscious of the duties this role is charged with and, more so, the significant role the department plays in impacting lives of every person in our community, I am driven and inspired to lead this team to fulfill our purpose on a national level. Honouring the foundation that has been set and current strategic trajectory placed, our vision remains focused on enabling employment for Caymanians whilst equally ensuring economic prosperity for our Islands. I look forward to the immediate challenges ahead during these novel times, but also to the Department’s successes as we journey forward.”

“Mr Scott’s vast experience with immigration, enforcement and leadership makes him the best person to lead WORC as the department responding to the needs of Caymanian workers, and businesses in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.” shared Mr Howell.

WORC’s offices are closed, however staff are working remotely, and the department continues to provide Caymanians with employment services and as well as receiving and processing applications during COVID-19.
